The club organises a Winter Programme featuring guest speakers from the fly fishing world. The venue is The Yeoman of England, 31 High Street, Wootton, Northampton NN4 6LP. They have a nice conference room situated just off the lounge, an excellent choice of refreshments and plenty of car parking.
We meet from 8:00pm – 10:00pm. Most guests deliver a prepared presentation followed by tying a few of their flies, with plenty of time for questions to be answered. We also have a raffle which usually includes the flies demonstrated.
In 2018/19 the speakers were Stuart Crofts, Ben Bangham and Alex Jardine.
In 2019/20 we have planned the following:
14th November 2019
Club social and fly tying evening. A few members have agreed to share their personal favourite flies and how they tie them. This is a great opportunity to meet other members and learn some of their tricks and tips.
12th December 2019
Peter Hartley – a well known local angler, house instructor for Anglian Water, who previously fished with the England team. Peter will share his more than 50 years experience of fishing Grafham and his many years of fishing the other Anglian Water reservoirs.
9th January 2020
Nigel Woolnough – son of Hector (in who’s name we fish the Pitsford bank match every year) who will talk about how fishing has changed over his Father’s lifetime including specific flies, tackle and tactics that have been successful.
13th February 2020
Jeff Wilkinson – runs Razor Sharp Flies. He ties quality flies commercially to order and also supplies a limited range of fly tying materials prepared by himself. He is perhaps one of the most innovative and creative fly tyers and is also a successful angler on the competition scene and is a regular fisherman at Grafham and Farmoor.
